From June 18 to 19, the Third International Conference on 3D Construction Printing and the International Conference on 3D Printing Concrete Materials and Structures-2022 organized jointly by Tongji University, Hebei University of Technology, and Southeast University and hosted by the College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, was held online. Vice President GU Xianglin attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Present at the conference were 500 participants from 10 countries and regions, including Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Singapore, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United States, Vietnam, in addition to China’mainland and Hong Kong.

Professor Jay Sanjayan of Swinburne University of Science and Technology, Australia, Professor MA Guowei of Hebei University of Technology, Professor Ming Jen Tan of Nanyang University of Technology, Singapore, Professor XU Weiguo of Tsinghua University, Professor Narayanan Neithalath of Arizona State University, US, and Professor SHI Caijun of Hunan University made key note speeches. Their speeches covered the latest international cutting-edge achievements in rheological property regulations, structural design and optimization, sustainability evaluation, printing process innovation, constructability evaluation and alkali activated printing material development of 3D construction printing materials.

The conference had six sessions on 3D construction printing materials, structural analysis, numerical simulation, architectural design and engineering applications. There were 59 academic presentations for the sessions, including 14 invited presentations. Although the pandemic had prevented participants from having offline gatherings, it has not hindered their enthusiasm for academic exchanges. The presentations on different topics drew the attention of experts, teachers and students.
On the afternoon of June 19, Professor ZHANG Yamei of Southeast University, Professor Viktor Mechtcherine of Dresden University of Technology, Germany, Professor FENG Peng of Tsinghua University, Dr Timothy Wangler of Zurich Federal Institute of technology, Switzerland, Dr R.J.M. Wolfs of Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, and Professor YUAN Feng and Professor XIAO Jianzhuang of Tongji University delivered presentations at the conference, with focus on 3D concrete design printing, the performance testing of 3D concrete printing, the latest research progress in 3D concrete construction printing and mechanical properties under extreme conditions, structural applications and sustainability, and 3D recycled concrete printing.

The 3D construction printing technology is characterized by interdisciplinary intersection and integration. Because of its customization, digitization, rapidity and flexibility, it has grown fast in civil engineering, and has become a disruptive technology to promote the development of green and intelligent construction. The conference not only strengthened the academic exchanges between domestic and international scholars in the field of 3D construction printing, but also promoted the diversification, intersection and integration among civil engineering and other related disciplines at our university, enhancing the international exchanges and "double first-class" development of Tongji University.
