On December 31, 2020, the "Multiculturalism: Harmonious Coexistence" gala was held by the International School of Tongji University, which included an orientation program for new students and an exhibition of multicultural exchanges. The gala also provided live broadcasts so that more than 100 students and teachers, including overseas students, were able to share online the joy of welcoming the new year.

Two students and a teacher hosted the orientation program of "Multiculturalism: Harmonious Coexistence" at the International School of Tongji University.

The gala comprised three parts: "Tasty—A Bite of China", "Diverse—World Culture Exhibition" and "Exciting—Talent Show". Students and teachers from the International School of Tongji University introduced traditional Chinese snacks to international students and invited students offline to taste the snacks together. Students from 11 countries, including Malaysia, Japan and Vietnam, introduced the unique culture of their respective homelands, through interesting pictures and videos, so that students from different countries could experience the folk culture from around the world without leaving home. Students also gave amazing performances offline. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, a Vietnamese student from the 2020 class, impressed the audience with a Chinese song called "Rarely-used Chinese Characters" containing more than 70 rarely-used Chinese characters. Jehu, a matriculated student from Cameroon, presented an exciting drumming performance. The song "Cuckoo" presented by a child whose parent works at Tongji University received great applause.
