The online teaching platform of Tongji University started its open testing on February 26. Based on the testing results, the university has decided that both teaching and learning are to be conducted online, including supervision of student thesis writing, from March 2, 2020 to when students return to university.

Important!

Online teaching for Tongji University’s second semester for the 2019-2020 academic year officially began on March 2, 2020.

Simplified Online Teaching Process

1. Check the teaching schedule (refer to https://1.tongji.edu.cn);
2. Establish contact groups among teachers and students as well as teaching assistants via social media. The course teacher is responsible for telling the students which platform to use for the respective courses and how to use it in one of two ways as outlined below;

i)  Through the notice board on the canvas teaching platform at    http://canvas.tongji.edu.cn;

ii)  Through contact groups (please set up and maintain contact groups for  all courses selected by students).

3. Conduct online teaching on a teaching platform.

Online Teaching Course Requirements

1. Students should abide by the online teaching classroom discipline requirements and study evaluation methods announced by the teacher. Offline classroom teaching management regulations and behavioral practices are also applicable to online teaching in principle, and teachers and students should accordingly abide by them. The Quality Management Office will use online supervision to monitor the quality of online courses;

2. Students are not allowed to videotape the courses without the consent of the teacher. Students may not disseminate course materials such as recorded videos broadcasted by the teacher to other students for personal studying purposes. Students must not disclose course meeting numbers and password information to other off-campus personnel;

3. Online teaching arrangements are implemented according to the university calendar. Students who have difficulty participating in online studying due to jet lag or computer problems should actively report to the class teacher in advance. The class teacher should provide guidance and course materials as well as answer questions through QQ group, WeChat group or email in order to facilitate self-study;

4. The class teacher should adapt to the format of online teaching by reasonably organizing and executing the teaching accordingly and answer questions after class. Students should actively cooperate in participating in online discussions, earnestly complete assessments and tests online to ensure studying is effective and of good quality.


Undergraduates

Online teaching arrangements

1. The course will run according to the university calendar.

2. Teachers and stud

ents will carry out online teaching through the various online platforms.

3. Micro-courses and minor courses offered by Tongji University will start simultaneously by online teaching. For students participating in inter-university minor courses and majors, please log in to the website: http://www.kxxfx.shec.edu.cn/Study/user/default.aspx and check the course information for each university (please note that some universities have cancelled inter-university minors).

4. Internships, practical training, practical courses, re-sits, and deferred examinations will be arranged at further notice.


Postgraduates

I. Online teaching arrangements

1. Teachers and graduate students should carry out online teaching through the various online platforms according to the university calendar;

2. The time scheduling for re-sits and deferred examinations is postponed:  please wait for further information on the specific format and timing of these exams;

3. Professional practice will be arranged separately according to the future developments.

II. Compulsory courses and thesis

1. The specific arrangements for thesis topic selection and the mid-term (comprehensive) assessment will be either postponed or conducted on schedule by video. The Graduate School will make a separate announcement and adjust timing schedules and deadlines as appropriate;

2. For graduate students from the Year 2018 who have not completed the university-level advanced lecture, they can use online MOOC lessons and write their knowledge-based understanding in the education information management system. The detailed procedures and operation methods will be provided in the follow-up notice. For graduate students from the Year 2019, please wait for further notice;

3. Online research and other related work will not be carried out during the epidemic. Theses for students who have passed the maximum length of study will be postponed;

4. Graduate student supervisors will guide the students’ theses online, and arrange studying and research tasks that can be carried out through the Internet. The supervisors need to communicate with their students regularly and respond to any psychological and anxiety concerns;

5. During the epidemic period, the submission of postgraduates’ theses will be conducted online normally. The defense of the theses and the award of degrees will be conducted in accordance with the "Notice of Tongji University on the defense of the theses and award of degrees in the spring semester of the Year 2019-2020".

III. Part-time Education and Teaching Arrangements

Part-time postgraduates will have the same requirements for online education, except where some schools have separate arrangements according to the particular characteristics of the discipline.
