The Shanghai College Student Chemistry Experiment Competition and Experimental Innovation Design Competition organized by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission are disciplinare competition for college students with significant influence in China. The competition aims at encouraging universities and teachers to attach importance to experimental teaching, stimulate students' interest in exploration and practice, promote the reform of chemical experimental teaching, and improve undergraduate chemistry education and teaching.

This competition has attracted over a hundred students from 19 universities, including Tongji University, University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The competition has two categories of chemical experiment competition and chemical experiment innovation design competition. There are a theoretical section and an experimental operation section for the Chemistry Experiment Competition. The "theoretical section" mainly covers four secondary disciplines: inorganic, analytical, organic, and physicochemical, with intersection and integration. It mainly tests students' theoretical knowledge in chemistry experiments and basic knowledge of general chemistry. The "experimental section" is divided into inorganic and analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry, which tests students' basic chemistry experiment skills and methods. The Experimental Innovation Design Competition has three tracks: "New Experimental Design""Existing Experimental Improvement Design", and "Popular Science Experimental Design". Each participating team consisted of three student contestants, who participated in the competition by submitting their research papers and videos and taking an online defense. After two days of intense competition, Wei Yutao, a Year 2020 student from Applied Chemistry with School of Chemical Science and Engineering of our university, won a special prize in the experimental skills competition with the highest overall score. The team of Tang Jiayu, Pang Jichuan, and Xiao Shaohua won a special prize in the experimental innovation design competition, while Yu Yawen and Zhou Yuxuan won a first prize in the experimental skills competition. Ma Nan was awarded the title of "Excellent Supervisor".
