On May 22nd, a seminar on the National University Intellectual Property Information Service Center jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the State Intellectual Property Office was held in Guangzhou along with an authorizing ceremony of the first batch of 23 National University Intellectual Property Information Service Centers. Tongji University was among the first batch of universities which were authorized to establish a National University Intellectual Property Information Service Center.

Tongji University established an Intellectual Property Information Service Center in February 2018, which was the first of its kind in China. In June 2018, the university initiated the establishment of a National University Intellectual Property Information Service Center Alliance, the first director of which was from Tongji, and the secretariat of which was located in the university library.
