On March 6th, Tongji University and Fudan University jointly established Shanghai Breastfeeding Research Centre (SBRC), the first-ever research hub for Epidemiology of Human Lactation in China, funded by the Family Larsson Rosenquist Foundation (FLRF) in Switzerland. In association with the Medical School of Tongji University, Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, Fudan School of Public Health and Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, SBRC is dedicated to exploring epidemiological issues on breastfeeding-related physiology and best practices linked to the long-term health of mothers and children.

The Family Larsson Rosenquist Foundation (FLRF) is an independent charitable organization dedicated to promoting breast feeding and multidisciplinary cooperation in support of research projects beneficial to maternal and child health. FLRF will endow a total of CHF 11 million to SBRC, which will conduct large-scale comprehensive epidemiological research on maternal and infant health in the four areas of Women’s Population Epidemiology and Lactation, Children’s Clinical Epidemiology, Children’s Population Epidemiology and Lactation, and Women’s Clinical Epidemiology and Lactation, and will host four endowed professorships. In addition, the center will focus on the research of human-milk-related policy formation, scaling up breastfeeding programs, developing young talents and improving bedside care. Researchers at the center may also coordinate with other members of the breast milk multidisciplinary teams of FLPF.
