On January 8th, a ceremony was held at Tongji University to launch the Joint Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence & Virtual Reality co-founded by Tongji University and Dell (China) Co., Ltd..
Tongji University thanked Dell for its support and hoped that the laboratory would provide an opportunity to further cooperation between universities and enterprises as a result of establishment of the Innovation Center for China-U.S. Youth Exchange. Dell expressed its wish to fully support the construction of the Joint Laboratory by taking advantage of its strengths.
The Innovation Center for China-U.S. Youth Exchange was accomplished as a result of implementation of the first round of the Joint Statement on China-U.S. Social and Cultural Dialogue, based on a consensus between two heads of states. As one of the first eighteen Innovation Centers for China-U.S. Youth Exchange authorized by the Ministry of Education, China, the Center at Tongji University has become a platform for entrepreneurship education and practice that integrates innovation, entrepreneurship, research, teaching and practice by making full use of the university strong disciplines and educational resources with support from the government and industry. Since 2014, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and College of Design and Innovation, both from Tongji University, have taken the lead in hosting the China-U.S. Young Maker Competition at Shanghai in collaboration other universities and some leading enterprises for five consecutive years. The competition has been committed to advocating maker culture and practice, influence of which has helped promote the growth and development of the “artisan spirit” and the spirit of innovation in society. During the past five years, Tongji University won many important awards in the competitions held in Shanghai and elsewhere in the national finals. A Tongji team received an award presented by LIU Yandong, Chinese Vice Premier, and John Foss Kerry, U.S. Secretary of State. In addition, competition entries by Tongji teams were reported by CCTV (China Central TV), attracting much attention.
