On December 17, the Shanghai Independent Intelligent Unmanned System Science Center which drew on the expertise of Tongji University, was unveiled at the eighth plenary meeting of the Shanghai Promotion and Construction Office for Science and Technology Innovation. The center is committed to resolving the major frontier problems in artificial intelligence by making full use of its multi-disciplinary advantages and attracting Shanghai and global minds. It will help cultivate high-end talents in artificial intelligence who are in short supply in China in its attempt to help Shanghai build its global influence in science and technology innovation.
The Shanghai Independent Intelligent Unmanned System Science Center aims at strengthening the interdisciplinary integration in the major frontier scientific issues of artificial intelligence. It will focus on key scientific issues such as “independence and perception”, “collaboration and group intelligence” from super-material perception, multi-scale integration, autonomy and interaction, and multi-body synergy. The large facilities and R&D platforms that the center is to build will help to make core technology break-throughs in intelligent sensing, unmanned terminals, network control and systems. The center will make endeavors to achieve original innovative research results in independent intelligent unmanned systems to help with industrial transformation of smart cities, intelligent construction, intelligent manufacturing, intelligent medical care, and intelligent agriculture.
The center will also initiate the establishment of “smart science and technology” discipline in its effort to cultivate outstanding talents with basic research and application capabilities of artificial intelligence to ensure sustainable capabilities of innovation by empowering traditional disciplines with “AI+”
Tongji University started to offer undergraduate programs i related to artificial intelligence in Intelligent Construction, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology this year. In fact, Tongji is the only university authorized to offer the “smart construction” program and one of the four universities to offer Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering program in China.
