On December 8, the 2020 Student Science and Technology Innovation Ceremony of Tongji University was held at the Jiading campus. This year, nine Tongji teachers were awarded "Good Supervisor in My Mind," 10 undergraduates were awarded "Academic Stars," and 9 postgraduates were awarded "Academic Pioneers." Assistant President PENG Zhenwei and relevant responsible individuals of the University Association for Science and Technology, the University Youth League Committee, and the Office of Research Administration attended the ceremony and presented awards to the winners.

Since October of this year, more than 70 "straight-A students" with the ambition of serving the country with science and technology have undergone their independent application, college/school selection, university evaluation, and final evaluation phases. In the end, 13 undergraduates from 10 colleges/schools entered the re-evaluation phase and participated in the on-site defense portion at the ceremony. In this selection, the re-evaluation candidates alone have obtained more than 10 patents, published more than 27 papers in top journals, and won more than 120 awards in domestic and overseas competitions such as the Challenge Cup. Seven candidates have ranked first in their majors for years. At the final evaluation site, the candidates shared their sweet and sour experiences during their scientific research as well as the setbacks and successes along their academic road. Some students have also signed up for the Serving Far West Program and will embark on the journey of supporting Xinjiang's construction after graduation.

At the ceremony, many students from the Freshmen College came from the Siping campus to meet the "Academic Stars." --A representative of the postgraduate "Academic Pioneers" CHEN Weichao from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering spoke on behalf of those who are forging ahead on the road of science and technology innovation. The growth of students is inseparable from the guidance of their supervisors. This year, Tongji University’s "Good Supervisor in My Mind" selection was based on the theme of " disseminating knowledge, and helping the world with gratefulness." As the result of online voting and rounds of selection, nine teachers were awarded "Good Supervisor in My Mind".

Since the establishment of the Tongji Students' Association for Science and Technology in April 2020, more than 30 activities have been held successively, forming the “passing on experience” characteristic of Tongji students’ science and technology innovation, setting up 70 "future scientists" role models, and attracting more than 30,000 people.
