Mrs. Carrie Lam visits Tongji University

On September 21st, Mrs. Carrie Lam, former Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and her delegation visited Tongji University. She delivered a speech with the Tongji Higher Education Lecture Series and exchanged ideas and interacted with teachers and students at Tongji. Party Secretary Fang Shouen, President Zheng Qinghua, Vice President Gu Xianglin attended the event.

Mrs. Carrie Lam gave a presentation on the "One Country, Two Systems" practice in Hong Kong from the perspectives of 20th National Congress Report and the spirit of the Two Sessions to Tongji teachers and students at the Yifu Building Lecture Hall. She started with the history of Hong Kong, continued with the report of the 20th National Congress and the spirit of the Two Sessions, and elaborated on the vivid practice of the great initiative of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong. She stated that Hong Kong has returned to the correct track of "one country, two systems" under the dual protection of national security and electoral system. Hong Kong will continue to maintain long-term prosperity and stability through fully and accurately implementing the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, backed by the home land with a global view. The report of the 20th National Congress and the spirit of the Two Sessions have provided clear direction and firm confidence for the future development of Hong Kong. Promoting a new journey of modernization with Chinese characteristics provides rich opportunities for Hong Kong's future development, and can lead Hong Kong to govern and prosper, making due contributions to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. "I have more confidence in Hong Kong than ever before and am more certain that it can integrate into the overall development of the nation and play an irreplaceable role in the nation's progress towards its second centenary goal," she said.

Mrs. Carrie Lam had a friendly interaction with teachers and students in Tongji, answering questions about the role of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in promoting connectivity with Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and how to strengthen youth exchanges between Shanghai and Hong Kong in combination with traditional Chinese culture. She encouraged Tongji young people to face new situations and future, actively enhance communication and exchange with Hong Kong, and create a better future together.

Mrs. Carrie Lam's sincere words and patriotism won enthusiastic applause from teachers and students. After the report, Fang Shouen presented Mrs. Lam with commemorative photos taken on the spot, as well as a printmaking depicting the architecture of Shikumen in Shanghai created by students from the College of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Mrs. Carrie Lam also attended the donation signing ceremony on that day. After the event, accompanied by President Zheng Qinghua, Mrs. Lam and her delegation visited the University History Museum and saw Tongji over a hundred years of development.
