The annual paper promotion activity of the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Association was organized and initiated by the Federation in 2013 and has been running for many years. This activity recommends original academic papers, which have attracted the attention of academic circles and were published in domestic academic journals by Shanghai scholars in 2020 (from September 1, 2019 to August 31, 2020). with the aim of reflecting the development level of Shanghai’s philosophy and social sciences, and leading the academic frontier and highlight the theme of the times. After multiple rounds of evaluations and recommendations by authoritative scholars in various disciplines, editors-in-chief of academic journals, senior academic editors, and other experts, a total of 10 papers were recommended this year covering major disciplines such as Marxism, philosophy, economics, law, literature, history, education, sociology, politics, and aesthetics.
Professor LIU’s paper was published in the 4th issue of Academic Monthly in 2020. The paper points out that Marx’s philosophy of technology is a modern critical philosophy of technology in nature, which aims to clarify the historical premise of modern technology and the two delimitations of technological criticism. Marx questioned closely the essence of modern technology, and revealed the historical nature and social form of modern technology and the relationship between technology and modern society’ s mode of production as well as human existence. Marx explained the relevance between technology and the human life world, and expounded three types of “human life world form” with different characteristics in terms of pre-modern, modern, and future societies. Marx distinguished technology itself and the social forms and ways in which technology was used, proposed the ideal of “new technological community of human life” for future society, and delimited the boundary of principle which separated from positivism and romanticism.
Professor FENG's paper was published in the 5th issue of Tongji University Journal Social Science Section in 2019. The paper points out the retrospection of French philosophy over 400 years, revealing four important paths of development (i.e., rationalism and scientism, irrationalism and philosophy of religion, social/political philosophy and the tradition of Marxism, phenomenological movement, and postmodern philosophy). The four paths are interwoven and influence each other. There are also four key points that characterize the ways and features of the development of French philosophy. They are: Descartes' philosophy; Enlightenment and Modernity; the Revolutionary Movement, and the Mutual Learning between Civilizations and the Mutual Influence between French and German Philosophies. The inspection of the four important paths and key points cannot exhaust the richness and multiplicity of French philosophy, but it can help us master the development law of French philosophy and grasp the development to change characteristics of European philosophy.
