Tongji University and Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission signs joint agreement to promote the creation of the Technology Transfer Talent Cultivation System in Shanghai

On November 28, Tongji University and the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission (SMSTC) signed their cooperation agreement to promote the construction of Technology Transfer Talent Cultivation System (TTTCS) in Shanghai, which marked the official start of its creation. The joint agreement was signed by Tongji Vice President GU Xianglin and SMSTC Chief Engineer LU Min. Officials from the SMSTC, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, National Eastern Tech-Transfer Center (NETTC), Tongji’s School of Economics and Management, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology Management, and the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property attended the ceremony.

 

In his speech, GU Xianglin said patented inventions in China are difficult to put into practice because the weakness of technology transfer reduces the contribution of patents to society. Therefore, it comes as a first priority to create a TTTCS for developing such talents. The partnership between the SMSTC and Tongji was established to deepen the cooperation between the two parties further and to explore new mechanisms and modes for technology transfer talent cultivation system. It is hoped the cooperation between the two parties can help turn out more talent in the field of technology transfer in China, as well as to facilitate the transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements of research universities and institutions so as to contribute more to the national economic growth.

At the ceremony, NETTC Executive President ZOU Shujun reported on the construction of the National Technology Transfer Talent Cultivation Base (Eastern Center) and introduced the structure, training, and their efforts in providing non-academic education and training at the Eastern Center. Tongji’s School of Economics and Management Party Secretary SHI Qian gave his account of the TTTCS construction, and elaborated on the training program and the academic education, and the highlights of non-academic education. The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission’s Science and Technology Office Director XU Kaiyu and the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology Management Executive Vice President HUO Jiazhen presented a promising prospect for technology transfer. They expressed their support and expectations for technology transfer talents cultivation. In addition, participants conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as the status quo, the importance of technology transfer and transformation in China, and the construction of the TTTCS.
