After nearly two months of evaluation and defense, the results issued by the National Organizing Committee of Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) showed that LIU Jiaqi, HU Yuchen, and WANG Sicheng from the 2018 Class of planning ofTongji’s College of Transportation Engineering, were awarded the first prize in the CUMCM 2020, and won the Higher EducationPressCup in theCollegeCategory.
The CUMCM,initiated in 1992 and sponsored by the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, is an annual popular science activity for college students nationwide. It has become the largest basic academic contest in China, and the largest-size mathematical modeling contest in the world.
This year, 45,680 teams (41,826 college teams and 3,854 pre-college teams) composed of more than 130,000 studentsfrom 1470 colleges/campuses in 33 provinces/cities/regions of China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan),Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and the United States participated in the contest. A total of 293 college teams won first prizes and 1,201 teams second prizes in the College Category.
The Higher Education Press Cup Award is the highest honorin the CUMCMand awarded to only one college team each year. This was the first time for a Tongji University team to win theAward in the 28-year history of the contest.
