To celebrate the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the "Read Tongji's Books, Inherit Tongji's Spirit" Specialized Book Exhibition was held on September 30 on the Second Floor of the Jiading Campus Library. The book exhibition selected nearly a hundred books from the library’s collections on the six themes of Unity (Tongxin), Morality (Tongde), Sailing Together (Tongzhouji), Serving the People (Jiren), Conducting Practical Deeds (Jishi), and "Serving the World (Jitianxia). The Exhibition provided teachers and students with an in-depth understanding of Tongji's historical and cultural spirit, as well as encouraging teachers and students to carry forward the unswerving spirit of patriotism, solidarity, self-improvement, and the rigorous and realistic scientific spirit.

The books on display focused on aspects, such as Patriotism and Tongji Spirit, Ideological and Political Education and Self-cultivation, Serving the society and Leading the Discipline, Biographies Passed from Generation to Generation, Tongji's Past and Contemporary Events, Looking up to the Stars and Expecting the Brilliant Future,. There were books that reflected the development history of Tongji, such as A Century of Tongji University (1907-2007), The First Volume of the History of Tongji University (1907-1949), Illustrated History of Centennial Engineering Education of Tongji University etc. There were also books about the spirit of Tongji people and Tongji's cultural connotation, such as Tongji Heroes, Tongji University Professor Directory, Brilliant Tongji People, Selected poems in Tongji's Centennial History, Tongji People Remembering the War of Resistance, Stories of Old Tongji. In addition, there were The Communist Manifesto, Biography of Lu Xun, Red Crag, Les Pensées, Twelve Letters for the Youth, and other books on social science covering history, philosophy, psychology, and biography.

The Exhibition was designed to provide teachers and students with a special reading area for in-depth study of Tongji's history, inheriting and carrying forward the love for the country and the Party. It also enabled the new era of Tongji people to possess a patriotic spirit and to pursue the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Book display

The Exhibition created three signature walls using General Secretary Xi Jinping’s summary of the history of Tongji University at the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of Tongji University Share weal and woe with the destiny of the Chinese nation, get close to our country's science and education undertakings, and be devoted to Shanghai's development. Teachers and students could write down their blessings to New China and their thoughts on life in Tongji.
