On the afternoon of August 27th, aseminar in celebration of the 50th anniversary of PAN Yunhe’s graduation from Tongji University was held in the College of Architecture and Urban Planning. The seminar was attended by PAN Yunhe, former Executive Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and a member of CAE, WU Zhiqiang, Vice President of Tongji Universityand a member of CAE, ZHENG Shiling and CHANG Qing, both are members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and LI Zhenyu, Dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP), Tongji University. . Also in attendance were a few senior professors of the CAUP, PAN’sformer classmates, representatives of young and middle-aged teachers, as well as leaders of the Publicity Department, Scientific Research Management Department, Development Planning Department, Discipline Office, and the Liaison and Development Office of the Party Committee of Tongji University.

Before the seminar began, Prof. PAN visited the exhibition of Outstanding Alumni of the CAUP, and improvised a piece of calligraphy-"With comprehensive basis of the real world, inject vital momentum to the Chinese design.”


WU Zhiqiang delivered his welcome speech. LI Zhenyu gave a briefing of the development of the CAUP,its mid- and long-term plans and the "14th Five-Year Plan". He expressed his wish for PAN to continue guiding the future disciplinary development of CAUP.
PAN recalled his days at Tongji University and how he shifted his research direction to artificial intelligence after his graduation. He said the knowledge and abilities he gained at Tongji University had laid a solid foundation for his work. He pointed out the world today is undergoing unprecedented major changes, and making things digitized and intelligent is the future directionof further development. In the process of human society moving from a two- to a three-dimensional world, the disciplines of the CAUP must pay close attention to and study the new changes and needsfor promoting the innovation and development of disciplines. He continued by stating that all CAUP members should free their minds, set foot in untapped fields, take root in China based on China’s needs, pay attention to the cultural design composition in order to promote the integration and development of Chinese culture with world culture, and continue to enhance the comprehensive competitiveness of the college’s disciplines during its innovative development.

ZHENG Shiling and CHANG Qing, both representatives of the seniorprofessors of CAUP; LU Jiwei, ZHANG Weicheng, and JIA Ruiyun, representatives of PAN’s classmates and alumni who majored in Architecture and graduated in1965; YUE Qinfang and ZHI Zhengzhong, and representatives of young and middle-aged teachers of CAUP;and YUAN Feng and LI Linxue all gave their speeches. They expressed their gratitude toPAN for his care and guidance for the development of the disciplines of the college, and expressed their admiration for his outstanding achievements and innovative spirit.
At the end of the seminar, WU Zhiqiang and LI Zhenyu presentedProf. PAN Yunhe with souvenirs on behalf of the University and CAUP.
