This book comes from a column, named:Midnight Tree Holeon the public WeChat account of the Tongji Psychological Center. Since October 2017, it has answered online questions from Tongji students about psychological problems. The full- and part-time psychological consultants of the Tongji Psychological Center reply by letter, aiming to answer students’practical confusion from a professional perspective. On this basis, an idea emerged, “We want to gather the questions and confusion of the students in the book, so that more readers, students, and teachers can understand the confusion of college students,” so Midnight Tree Hole came out. This book is also the first, full, question-and-answer mental health reader for college students based on real questions in China, hoping to convey the concerns and understandings of college students. It is also hoped that the school will be able to contribute to the mental health education of college students nationwide in the process of promoting its own psychological education.
In College Students’ Mental Health: The Triple Perspectives of Teachers, Clinical Therapists and Researchers,Professor ZHAO, analyzes deeply the complex social environment and life issues faced by college students, puts forward the importance of paying attention to the mental health of college students, shares typical cases in his clinical work and Tongji University's investigation and research on psychological conditions of college students, and offers sincere suggestions on how to understand themselves and adapt to society.
According to the introduction at the Conference, Midnight Tree Hole has two characteristics; one of which is true. The 68 questions contained in the book came from real college students' questions in the backstage of the official account, reflecting the thoughts and feelings of college students in daily life, including many common problems. Procrastination in study and scientific research, confusion about professional development, difficulties in getting along with roommates, conflicts and dislocation communication with boyfriends or girlfriends, are a few examples included. Some of the questions also involved emotional disorders, such as depression, bipolar affective disorder, anxiety disorder, and bulimia, all of whichsociety has become increasingly concerned in recent years. Other characteristics include professionalism and operability. The replies in the book all come from professional psychological consultants’ answers topatients.
Based on years of theoretical researchand clinical experience, the consultants include not only their understanding and empathy of the questioner’s situation, but also the popularization of psychological knowledge. They also try to provide feasible suggestions to solve the problems.
