August 19 is the third Chinese Doctor's Day. The election of 20 "Good Doctors of Shanghai" in 2020, launched jointly by the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission and Shanghai Civilization Office, was officially announced. Three doctors from Tongji University’s affiliated hospitals are on the list. They are ZHOU Caicun, director of the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital’s Oncology Department, GAO Liang, director of Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital’s Neurosurgery Department, and WU Xianzheng, director of Tongji University Hospital’s Emergency Medicine Department.

After the pandemic outbreak, ZHOU immediately thought of his patients with lung cancer who were "trapped" by the pandemic. He led the department to fully implement various prevention and control policies against the disease during the pandemic and made scientific plans, thus building a line of defense against COVID-19.

GAO Liang is committed to building world-class neuro-intensive care units. His department has become an important referral center for critically ill patients with neurological diseases in Eastern China and even across the country, and a large number of these patients have been saved.

WU Xianzheng has been working year around without taking holidayssince 2008, and has worked overtime voluntarily on ward roundsin the weekend. He is on call 24 hours a day whenever there are critically ill patients and emergencies, making responsible decisions whilecarrying out his work carefully according to the overall situation at hand.
