From July 15 to 16, the 12th Congress of Returned Overseas Chinesewas held at the Shanghai World Expo Center. At the opening ceremony, the decision to commend outstanding figures in the overseas Chinese of Shanghai, advanced individuals ofoverseas Chinese, and advanced organizations and individuals of the Overseas Chinese Federation system was announced. WUZhiqiang, Tongji’s Vice President and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, won the title of:Shanghai Outstanding Person in Overseas ChineseCircle. Professor ZHUDeqiufrom Tongji Hospital and Professor LI Jianhua of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering won the title of:Advanced Individuals of Returned Overseas Chinese in Shanghai. The Overseas Chinese Federation of Tongji University was awarded:Advanced Organization of the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Federation System.Also, CHEN Hong, General Secretary of the Third Committee of the University Overseas Chinese Federation, was awarded the title of Advanced Individual in the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Federation System.

Invited to participate in this congress were: WUZhiqiang and LI Jianhua as special guests andDU Jianzhong, LI Yan, WANGHaiying, CHENGXuhang, and DAIQiupingasrepresentatives. The congress elected DU Jianzhong as a Permanent CouncilMember and LI Yan as Commissioner of the 12th Committee of the Shanghai Federation in Overseas Chinese.
