Tongji professors WU Zhiqiang, JIANG Changjun and WANG Tao won National Innovation Prizes

The award ceremony of the Second National Innovation Prize jointly organizedby the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China Association for Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, and State-owned Assets Supervision and Administrative Commission of the State Council was held on May30, the fourth National Scientific and Technological Practitioner Day. Three professors from Tongji University appeared on the prizelist: WU Zhiqiang, professor of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tonjgi Universitywho is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering; JIAGN Changjun,professor of College of Electronic and Information Engineering, Tonjgi University, a chief scientist of the National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program)whose research is supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and WANG Tao, executive vicedirector of the Institute of Disaster Medicine and of the Department of Emergency Medicine fromShanghai East Hospital, Tongji University.

The National Innovation Prize is another important award for scientific and technologicalpractitioners approved by the state authorities. Together with NationalPrize for Natural Sciences, National Prize forTechnological Invention and National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology,it is a significant partof national science and technology award system ranking second only totheNational Highest Science and Technology Award, and was established to reward and support top scientific and technological intellectuals.

A total of 10 teams were presented with name plates of National Innovation Prize, 28 individuals with medals and 258 individualswithcertificates of National Innovation Prize, among whom 3 medal and 17 certificate winners were from Shanghai.
