Students from Tongji University won gold and bronze medalsof IYMA2020and China-UK New International Youth Talent Competition

On May 13, ZHU Yiwen, and WANG Xinning, undergraduate students from the Music Performance program of the College of Arts & Media of Tongji University received the award certificates from the International Young Musicians Academy (IYMA) 2020and China-UK New International Youth Talent Competition. Under the supervisionof Ms. SHEN Ting, a music teacher from theUniversity, the two students won the gold and bronze medalsin the violin category respectively. The event was held on January 18 in Macau, China where fierce competition was staged among finalists from Zhuhai, Wuhan, Hong Kong and Shanghai of China.

IYMA, was initiated by Mr. Jeremy Young, director of the Department of Chamber Music of Royal Northern College of Music and a senior instructor of piano and chamber music of Chetham’s School of Music, UK. The IYMA 2020and China-UK New International Youth Talent Competition aimed at improving thecommunicationbetween China and the UKin music and art education so that more talented teenagers, teachers and music lovers in both countriescouldenhance their performance skills and artistic accomplishments.

The competition hadfour categories of vocal music, western instrumental music, dance and language performance. Among them, the western instrumental music categoryincluded piano, violin and cello. A number of well-known domestic and foreign performers and educators were invited to serve in the panel of judges.
