With the principle of attaching great importance to the safety and physical health of medical staff , and being highly responsible for campus prevention and control, as well as scientific research to understand the epidemic development, Tongji University organized nucleic acid testing and serum antibody testing on the first batch of faculty members returning from key areasof Wuhan and other cities from Hubei Province to Shanghai on the afternoon of April 16. It is reported that the first 80 people were tested and the results were all negative. The cost of the test was borne by the university.
Tongji University conducted the "customized" testing at the entrance of the campus. Meanwhile the Yangpu District Health Committee and the Yangpu District Disease Control Center appointed the Yangpu Hospital affiliated to Tongji University to carry out the test at the Expert Service Center of Tongji University and asked its medical workers to assist on site. The testing was carried out during different periods of time and the center was disinfected once every half an hour. It was divided into different areas: temperature detection area, registration area, waiting area, sampling area, medical treatment area, isolation area, etc. Members from each at the scene queued up in an orderly manner while keeping social distancing.
LI Lina, a teacher from the School of Mathematical Sciences who just returned from Wuhan, actively cooperated to have nucleic acid and antibody testing. She observed: "Having the testing can not only check your physical health but also reassure your colleagues, students and parents. Doing so is conducive to restoring the campus order and building a safe campus".YU Mengming, a postdoctoral student from the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences, lived in the university apartment before the pandemic outbreak. Upon his return from Xianning, Hubei Province,the university made arrangements for him carry out his quarantine in the expert service center, conforming to the university’ s epidemic prevention policy. After having the nucleic acid and antibody testing, he expressed his sincere thanks to Tongji University and the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences.
Vice President of Tonji University LYU Peiming said that ensuringappropriate arrangements beforeour faculty staff returned to school and making sure staff and students are not infectious is a prerequisite for the university to resume classes. For the sake of the health of faculty staff and students, we must ensure that the pandemic is under control and the university has prepared adequately for prevention and control. Therefore, Tongji University will make overall arrangements, communicate closely, strengthen collaboration and establish a monitoring and inspection mechanism as well as an emergency response mechanism. The point-to-point collaboration mechanism between university and medical institutions and disease control agencies should also be in place to guarantee the prevention and control of the pandemic before the school starts.
