The Chinese Football Association confirmed on March 21 that Mr. WU Lei, a player of the Chinese Men’s Football Team and Tongji student who currently plays for the Spanish Football Club of La Liga, had been diagnosed with the new coronavirus disease. The University got in touch with Mr. WU in the first instance to show their concern and reassured him that they would do everything possible to help him should he need any. Mr. WU expressed his gratitude to the University and to teachers for their concern. He told them about his symptoms and his life of being isolated at home in Spain. He is recovering fast and his symptoms have almost disappeared.

“Hello, my dear friends! As you know, it’s true that I have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus disease, and I am isolated at home for the moment. I feel fine now and my symptoms have almost disappeared. The test results, including a CT test, were good. No big deal, now. Thank you”! WU said in a video sent to the University. “I have received all your blessings. Thank you very much for your care! I would also like you to take this virus serious, for we have not defeated it completely. We must remember to wash our hands frequently and stay at home. I believe we will be able to contain the epidemic. I just can’t wait to return to the football pitch. Stay strong”!

The University will maintain close contact with WU and is ready to provide all necessary assistance. They wish to see WU recover as soon as possible. At this special time, all Tongji people, both at work and at home, must respond actively to the epidemic by doing well in self-protection, keeping updated with development of the disease, checking body temperature regularly, and reducing unnecessary travel. Please keep in constant touch with student tutors and class teachers if you encounter any difficulties! We are together with you!
