On February 14，2020, the electronic edition of the Handbook for the Prevention of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (University Edition) planned by Tongji University team was released online to help staff and students from higher institutions to combat the NCP.
Since the NCP outbreak, the University medical guidance group has actively implemented General Secretary XI Jinping's important instructions and the requirements of the authorities, including the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Government and the NCP Prevention and Control Leading Group of Tongji University. The medical guidance group also adopted a series of effective measures and achieved good results on the campus for the prevention and control of the virus. As the peak of returnees to the university and the city was to emerge after the holidays, the medical guidance group focused on the effective scientific and practical prevention and control of the epidemic, through disseminating knowledge and best practice to teachers and students alike. The handbook has been published in a short time in order to provide a rational understanding of the disease among teachers and students; guide personal and overall campus prevention; reduce the risk of transmission; and enhance scientific prevention. Under the care and support of the University leading group, the medical guidance group, jointly with Tongji University Hospital and Tongji University Press, organized and published the handbook.
The handbook is based on the practical needs of teachers and students and the characteristics of the university's prevention and control work, and provides concise, informative and understandable language to answer any doubts that may arise in the process of preventing and controlling the epidemic. It also provides clear and effective solutions to maximize prevention. The handbook is composed of 5 parts, namely: understand the NCP; detect symptoms, apply medical treatment and isolation; apply measures of prevention; give psychological support; provide advice on nutrition and exercise.
In order to help teachers and students read the contents of the new book and acquire relevant knowledge on the epidemic’s prevention, the Handbook for the Prevention of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (University Edition) is launched online with the help of the compiling group and the press. Readers can read it free of charge, and collect and download the full text through the e-book platform of Tongji University Press.
