In the face of the coronavirus outbreak, all parts of Tongji University responded quickly in our great efforts to stop the spreading of the disease. As one of the University's logistics support departments, the University catering center is responsible for providing three meals a day for the staff and students at the University. The catering center must not make any mistakes in this special battle against the virus. They have gone all out to ensure the safety and health of the University's staff and students.

Further strengthen canteen management and inspection systems

The catering center held emergency meetings in the first instance to make detailed work plans from food safety, catering services to epidemic prevention, and pinned down the responsibility of everyone at each post.

The center makes sure that information of epidemic prevention knowledge and requirements from authorities at different level are conveyed to each employee through WeChat groups, posters, and on-site presentations to raise the awareness of epidemic prevention among all employees. In addition to real-name morning inspection, body temperature of each employee is taken on the post and recorded every day. Real-time food sample records, tableware disinfection records and environmental disinfection records are carefully made.

The center distributes face masks and related supplies for employees, and requires that every employee should wear a mask and disposable gloves while on the job. The entire staff is required to guarantee personal hygiene, with emphasis on hand washing and disinfection. If anyone feels any discomfort, they must stop working immediately and seek medical treatment in a timely manner.

Strict control is kept of the source of procurement to resolutely put an end to the wild game and ingredients from unknown sources. Strict control is levied upon the food processing process, including separating raw and cooked foods, avoiding cross-contamination, and cooking foods thoroughly with enough time. The center has also Intensified its supervision and resolutely put an end to food without date of manufacturing, information of manufacturer or quality insurance card, and forbid any operations and behaviors that do not meet food hygiene standards.

Strengthen disinfection measures for everyone

The center increases the frequency and extends the areas of disinfection, strengthens the cleaning and disinfection of all utensils, disinfects the dining tables and chairs in the lobby twice a day, and disinfects the environment of the kitchens, halls, and public areas of the cafeteria once a day. They also assign special personnel to carefully disinfect each corner every day, from the stairs, door handles, sinks to faucets without missing any details. The cafeteria hall is open for ventilation three times a day to maintain air circulation and ensure public health.

Ensure food safety to enhance Tongji people’s "immunity"

According to the University's plan on the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, the center has adjusted the opening hours of each canteen based on a comprehensive consideration of the number of staff returning to school and the existing supply capacity of canteens at work. Joint efforts are made to provide safe and balanced meals with a good variety for staff and students on campus. Take-away packs are provided to encourage people to pack and dine on their own. Meanwhile, "heart-warming" food delivery services are offered at dormitory buildings for students in quarantine. No matter what difficulties they encounter, the center has been making all endeavors to safeguard the quality and quantity of food on campus, and keep Tongji people in good health and immunity.
