January 20, 2020

After studying and living in Shanghai for almost a week, students from Tongji University’s Leiboiz-Confucius Institute in Hannover joined a winter camp, which provided them opportunity for an in-depth study and experience of Chinese language and culture. Shanghai's local customs and practices left a deep impression on the whole group. In order to let the students learn more about China, they were sent to Hangzhou, a historical and cultural city, on December 29, 2019 for cultural visits, experiences and studies.

The first stop of the Hangzhou trip was at Xiangshan Central Campus of the China Academy of Art. Students were attracted by the campus’ unique layout and design, including buildings filled with Chinese features. The second stop focused on Hangzhou’s famous attractions: Jingci Temple and West Lake. The students first went to Jingci Temple which is on the south bank of West Lake, opposite to Leifeng Pagoda. After that, they set foot on Su Causeway and boarded a cruise ship to enjoy very distinctive Chinese scenery. The last stop was at the China Tea Museum, located in Shuangfeng Village, Longjing Road, to the southwest of West Lake. The students tasted tea while enjoying performances on stage including poetry recitals. Such a blending of learning and entertainment within a unique setting was very much appreciated by the group.

For this trip to Hangzhou, the students not only appreciated different Chinese landscapes, but also gained a deep understanding of Chinese culture. Reluctantly they embarked back to Shanghai to start a new chapter of learning.
