Project by Tongji Professor ZHANG Ming Wins ARCASIA Gold Award for Architecture 2019

On November 5th, the ARCASIA Awards for Architecture 2019 ceremony was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. “White Lotus M2 Cruise Ship Terminal”, design of which was led by ZHANG Ming in cooperation with East China Architectural Design and Research Institute won the ARCASIA Gold Award for Architecture 2019 (B-4 Public Amenity: Specialized Buildings). ZHANG Ming is a professor of College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University, and a head architect of Original Design Studio, Tongji Architectural Design Group.


The "White Lotus M2 Cruise Ship Terminal" met strong competitors of "Kampung Admiralty" by WOHA, a well-known architect from Singapore, and "Tokyu Plaza Ginza" by Japanese architect Hashimoto.

Architects Regional Council Asia, ARCASIA for short, is an Asian architect organization composed of architect societies from countries/regions in Asia. It was established in 1979 in Jakarta, Indonesia. There are currently 21 architect societies represented in the Council.
The design team, led by Professor ZHANG Ming, was not the first time to win ARCASIA Awards for Architecture. In 2015, "Original Design Studio" (Shanghai Stud Factory Reconstruction Project) won ARCASIA Nomination Award (D: Protection Project). In 2018, the "Yangpu Riverfront Public Space Demonstration Section" won ARCASIA Gold Award for Architecture 2018 (E Social /Institutional Buildings).
