China Symposium on Polar Science 2019, an annual event for research in polar science, was held at Tongji University from October 7 to 9. Over 400 participants from more than 100 organizations attended the Symposium and presented more than 200 research papers.
CHEN Lianzeng, Chairman of China Society for Oceanography, GU Xianglin, vice president of Tongji University, and people from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and from Zhongshan University attended the Symposium. CHEN Lianzeng, GU Xianglin, and QIN Weijia, director of the Polar Investigation Office of the State Oceanic Administration, made key note speeches at the conference. WANG Pinxian, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from Tongji University, YANG Huigen and ZHOU Hongyan, researchers from Polar Research Institute of China, CHENG Xiao, professor from Zhongshan University, and LI Zhongqin, researcher from Northwest Institute of Ecological Environment and Resources of Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered presentations at invitation. After the general assembly, experts and scholars conducted extensive academic exchange in a total of 11 parallel sessions.






China Symposium on Polar Science is the most important large-scale academic conference in the field of polar science. It provides a platform for academic exchange and cooperation among polar researchers both at home and abroad and plays an increasingly important role in China's polar science. This year is the 15th China Symposium on Polar Science, which coincides with the year of planning for the 14th Five-Year Plan for China's polar expedition. People explored extensively key areas of current research and future development of China's polar research, and achieved fruitful results at the Symposium which had attracted a large number of outstanding talents.
