At the 17th Formula SAE Japan that ended on August 31, TJU Racing Team and DIAN Racing from the School of Automotive Studies, Tongji University were among the top three in ICV Class and EV Class respectively. They were the third and fourth student teams from the School of Automotive Studies that had won a number of awards in both domestic and international vehicle competitions in the past 10 days.

Formula SAE Japan has been the highest-level Student Formula Competition in Asia. The participating teams were from Asian countries and a few European countries. A total of 90 teams participated in 2019 Formula SAE Japan, including 69 teams for ICV Class and 21 teams for EV Class.
