On "Psychological Wisdom in Teacher-Student Communication" at Teacher’s Salon

On March 15th, the first teacher’s lunch salon for 2019 was held at the activity base of the Teacher Development Center, Zhonghe Building, Siping Campus. YAO Yuhong, the executive deputy director of the psychological counseling center of Tongji hosted the salon on the topic of "Psychological Wisdom in Teacher-Student Communication ", which taught us how to make use of psychological knowledge to communicate harmoniously and effectively between teachers and students from a professional perspective.


Starting from "What is true mental health?", the presentation introduced real and vivid cases from real work and life, analyzed the diversified and individualized psychological needs of contemporary college students, which helped teachers understand the individuality of student needs and learn to use psychological knowledge for effective communication between teachers and students for proper handling of conflicts.

During the salon activity, teachers were asked to play two roles for an on-site experiment. It was demonstrated that different cognition asked for different treatments, and incorrect treatments may lead to misunderstanding in communication, and even gave rise to contradiction. The experiment not only analyzed the causes of problems in communication, but also provided specific solutions to problems.

In order to promote the mental health education in colleges and universities and improve teachers' psychological counseling ability for students, the teacher development center has invited well-known psychologists from both inside and outside the university to conduct in-depth training for teachers, which included psychological status and self-pressure regulations, psychological crisis judgment and response of college students and basic knowledge of educational psychology. All this will further improve the mental health of teachers and students at Tongji.
