Tongji University Wins First Prizes in MOE’s Calling for Papers in Education Statistics and its Case Studies

Recently, the National Center for Schooling Development Programme of the Ministry of Education issued Results of Calling for Papers on the Second National Educational Statistics and Results of Calling for Case Studies of Educational Statistics 2018. WANG Xiaoxi, an MA student from the Research Institute of Higher Education of Tongji University, won the first prize in the National Education Statistics, and SHE Shifeng and ZHOU Xin the first prize and a second prize in the Case Studies of Educational Statistics 2018 respectively. Tongji became the only university which won the first prize in both calling for papers.

WANG’s paper of "analysis of regional innovation ability in China's provinces and cities--from the perspective of university disciplines" was mainly based on data from the fourth round of disciplinary assessment organized by the Ministry of Education. It explored the relationship between university disciplinary level and regional innovation ability with reference to the "disciplinary Innovation Index". SHE submitted her paper of "building data warehouses to improve statistic quality" based on her years of experience in dealing with statistics. She introduced the university’s practice in its efforts to improve the statistic quality by issuing Measures for Tongji University Statistical Work, standardizing statistical criteria and verifying statistics. ZHOU demonstrated the case of “construction of teacher information management system of Tongji University College of Civil Engineering" with support from the College of Civil Engineering. In his vivid depiction of the nine years during the construction of the system, he showcased the important role a close combination of data handling with modern management concept played in strengthening data accumulation, display, use, analysis, prediction, monitor and control.
