The Academic Committee meeting 2018 of the Marine Resources Research Center of Tongji University was held on November 17th. The meeting was chaired by ZHAO Wenzhi, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), vice director of the Academic Committee and director of Exploration and Development Research Institute of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Present at the meeting were WANG Pinxian, a member of CAS from Tongji University; JIA Chengzao, a member of CAS from CNPC, LI Jiabiao, a member of CAS and director of the Second Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration, ZHANG Yuqing, former vice director of the National Energy Administration, XIE Yuhong, chief geologist of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, SUN Huanquan, general manager of Sinopec Oilfield Division, WU Nengyou, director of the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology under the Ministry of Natural Resources, PANG Xiongqi, former President of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), XIE Xinong, Dean of the School of Energy of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and other leading figures in the field.
Professor ZHU Weilin, director of the Center, started with an overview of the work in the previous year before introducing the research results and research plans for the future. Then GENG Jianhua, XU Changhai, CAI Jingong, SHAO Lei, DONG Liangguo and JIANG Mingjing, teachers from the Center, presented the highlights of their research respectively. The members of Academic Committee showed their appreciation to the fruitful achievements made by the center over the year. They were particularly impressed by the center’s distinctive research features of “Paleoceanography & Paleolimnology coupled with Deep Sea & Deep Earth” and "Geology integrated with Geophysics". They provided their insightful suggestions for further development of the Center, esp. in its basic research in combination with applied research as well as research in cooperation with the industry and academia.
