On November 8, 2018, the 3rd Shanghai-Stuttgart Symposium on Automotive and Engine Technology (SSSAET) was held in the New Energy Automotive Engineering Center on the Jiading Campus of Tongji University. GU Xianglin, vice president of Tongji University gave a speech at the symposium. A total of 300 participants attended the conference, including more than 60 international people from Germany, Japan, Sweden and US and over a hundred companies and societies like Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAEC), Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), BAIC BJEV, Continental AG, Daimler AG, Dong Feng Automobile Corporation (DFAC), First Automotive Works (FAW), Kuan Deng Technology, NIO, SAIC VOLKSWAGEN and TOYOTA.

The conference consisted of eight keynote speeches, nine sessions and 45 presentations. Participants explored the cutting-edge technologies such as aerodynamics, lightweight vehicles, intelligent vehicle technology, electric drive, hydrogen-powered fuel cells and electric drive, fuel cell stack and system, fuel cell system and fuel cell vehicles.
SSSAET is a high-end conference between China and Germany hosted by Tongji University and Stuttgart University in turn under the leadership of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the State Government of Baden-Württemberg, Germany, and the People's Government of Jiading District, Shanghai. This year was the third year of SSSAET. Every year this event brings together the world's leading figures in the field to explore the latest frontier technologies, applied issues and market trends by taking full advantages of the automobile industry in the Yangtze River Delta and of the research on fuel cell, aerodynamics and new energy vehicles at Tongji University. Meanwhile, the participants of the conference were highly international with global perspectives due to the strengths of the German automotive industry.
