A Tongji University delegation headed by Prof. WU Jiang, executive vice president of the University visited UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) and UN-Habitat from 25th to 28th Sept. The Africa Office, Asia and the Pacific Office, Economy Division, Ecosystems Division, Law Division, Policy and Programme Division, Science Division of UNEP, UNEP DTU (Technical University of Denmark) Partnership, Global Resource Information Database (GRID) Offices and Tongji University Delegation met and had heated discussions on the systemic development of the Global Universities Partnership on Environment for Sustainability (GUPES).
The vision, tasks and timetable of GUPES were decided upon at the meeting based on the integrated resources of UNEP and Tongji University. WU, as both the executive vice president of Tongji University and the chairman of GUPES, reported about Tongji University's long time support as well as the progress of GUPES over the past five years. He expressed his wish to take full advantage of strengths of UNEP to turn GUPES into a better global platform for research and technology transfer.

During the visit, WU also met people from UN-Habitat, reporting the progress on Ecological Village Guide and Water Resources in Africa. He introduced the strengths of Tongji University in urban planning and environmental science in the hope to achieve all-round cooperation in research, international cooperation and personnel exchange on the basis of the existing training programme of African Mayors.
