Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester visits Tongji

Professor CHEN Jie, president of Tongji University met the delegation from the University of Manchester headed by Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell at Yifu Building on the Siping Campus on Sept.26th. People from relevant schools and the International Office were present at the meeting.

CHEN extended his warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of Tongji and Dame Rothwell expressed her appreciation for the hospitality of Tongji University. The two parties reviewed the existing cooperation between Tongji School of Economic Management (SEM) and the Manchester Business School (MBS)after giving each other a briefing of their universities. Both presidents noted that the two universities had similarities in both scale and disciplines, and shared their vision for the future. Both sides would integrate resources to expand their cooperation to more fields in computer science, medicine and health, environment for sustainable development, urban planning and mechanical engineering with strong support from Manchester China Institute.

The cooperation between SEM and MBS began in 2009. Since then, the dual degree program in MBA jointly run by both sides has developed steadily in its student scale and the teaching quality.

The University of Manchester, one of the six famous Red Brick Universities in the UK and a founding member of the Russell Group, has world-renowned academic competence and boasts 25 Nobel Prize winners.
