Rector of Politecnico di Torino and Consul General of Italy in Shanghai Visit Tongji University

On the afternoon of September 26th, a delegation of six people headed by Guido Saracco, Rector of Politecnico di Torino, Italy visited Tongji University in the company of Michele Cecchi, Consul General of Italy in Shanghai. President CHEN Jiemet the visitorsin Yifu Building.

CHEN Jie expressed his warm welcome to the visitors on behalf of Tongji. After a review of the successful cooperation between the two universities for more than a decade, he proposed to further the cooperation on doctoral programs and research.

Guido Saracco spoke high of the cooperation between the two universities and showed his agreement to CHEN’s proposal. He said he would be committed to building a stronger strategic cooperative partnership between the two parties as Tongji was the first university in China that Politecnico di Torino went into partnership with.

The Italian visitors visited Yunchou Building and attended a preparatory meeting of Healthy Shanghai 2030, a research project in cooperation with Tongji. They discussed the significance, objectives, plan and schedule of the project with Chinese and Italian experts.

The Politecnico di Torino is one of Italy's renowned institutions of higher learning. The two universities signed a cooperation agreement in 2005 and have worked together since in such disciplines as telecommunications, machinery, automotives, design and civil engineering.
