The 40th annual meeting of International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) was held on September 18th, 2018 in Nantes, France. Prof. GE Yaojun, head of the Department of Bridge Engineering, College of Civil Engineering of Tongji University was elected out of three candidates as President of IABSE (term of office: 2019-2022) through secret ballot by 63 members from over 20 National Groups. The election was completed right after the first round of voting and Prof. GE became the first Chinese president of IABSE in its 90-year history.

Prof. GE Yaojun
IABSE was founded in 1929 and has its seat in Zurich, Switzerland. It is a scientific/technical association comprising 3200 members in more than 100 countries and counting 51 National Groups worldwide. It is the most influential professional association in the field of bridge and structural engineering that has the longest history and the largest number of members.
GE Yaojun, a professor with the College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, is Director of the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering and a member of the Academic Council, Tongji University.
