January 08, 2018

On Jan. 2nd, 2018, the 2nd Shanghai College Student Makers Competition, sponsored by Shanghai Education Commission and hosted by Tongji University, came to an end at the College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University.

The competition, with a theme of Creating a New Life and Future, attracted a large number of participants from colleges and universities in Shanghai. Since it was launched on Nov. 20th, 2017, a total of 426 participants from 26 universities submitted 123 projects online. In the preliminary, 149 players from 22 universities with 53 projects succeeded in making it into the final offline. Eventually, 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 4 third prizes and 4 innovation prizes were awarded to winners.

Compared with that of last year, the competition saw not only an increased number of participants, but also interdisciplinary teamwork across universities. Moreover, the projects submitted by the competitors expressed their profound thoughts on major social issues. “The makers competition provided a platform where student makers from universities in Shanghai could exchange their ideas and tried to realize them. The students had a chance to experience the entrepreneurship which they would need when they started their own business in the near future. We hope the platform can guide young makers to make more attempts at innovation and entrepreneurship” , said Mr. DING Junfeng, an associate professor with College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University and the founder of Fablab O Digital Workshop at the College.
