‘Automated Valet Parking’ refers to the low-speed, unmanned car driving in a specific situation. And this is how it works: having arrived at a parking garage, you leave your vehicle in a ‘Drop-off Area.’ And then, you open a corresponding app in your smart phone to order your car to move off without any further human intervention into the parking garage, and maneuver into a free space. Shortly before you want to leave, you order the vehicle to return to you via the same app, and pay the parking fee. Subsequently, the car will start up and drive autonomously to a ‘Pick-up Area.’

The team of Prof. DU from the College of Transportation Engineering, Tongji University, is working with five other teams from Chery New Energy, the Horizon, Jilin University, Shanghai Yi-Drive, and Yilian Technology, for the research, development, and operation of the ‘Automated Valet Parking System’ at the Auto-Innovation Park. Prof. DU’s team is mainly responsible for the construction of the smart parking facilities and the research and development of the automated parking control system.

Plans for the ‘Automated Valet Parking’ (Phase II) are on their way, which will further optimize the vehicle control and provide customers with a better parking experience.
