New Chapter for ‘The Belt and Road Initiative’ by Tongji University

Responding to the ‘Belt and Road Initiative,’ the Party Committee of the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, designated an expert team composed of six teachers from the Institute of Environmental Planning and Management, the Department of Environmental Science, the Department of Municipal Engineering, and the Department of Environmental Engineering to visit Nepal from November 23 - 28, 2017. On invitation, the team visited quite a few educational institutions in Nepal, including the Department of Environment, the Ministry of Population and Environment of Nepal, Tribhuvan University, Nepal Engineering College, the Alternative Energy Promotion Center of the Ministry of Population and Environment, and Himalayan White House International College.

During the visit, the representative from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tongji University, signed a memorandum of cooperation with counterparts from Tribhuvan University, Nepal Engineering College, and the Himalayan White House International College.

Meanwhile, experts from different fields on the team surveyed such prioritized issues as the energy structure of the Kathmandu valley, the air pollution in and outside the city, the safety of drinking water, the pollution control over rivers, the classification and disposal of household wastes, climate change, and the urban flood control in Nepal. They also held discussions with members in the Department of Environment of Nepal on fundamental issues over the next five years.
