As one of the major activities for the 2017 Campus Art Festival of Tongji University,Waiting for the Moon,Peking Opera style show series of Chinese classic poems was held on November 5that the 129 Auditorium of Tongji University.


Waiting for the Moon,an offbeat and classic show, expressed the subtle and delicate beauty of classic Chinese poetry through artistic representation of Peking Opera and unique rhyme of poems and acting. Performers from the Shanghai Peking Opera Theatre d traditional Chinese classic poems, such as HE Zhizhang’sComing Home, FAN Zhingyan’sWaterbag DanceandFisherman’s Pride, MENG Jiao’sSong of the Parting Son, SU Shi’sPrelude to Water Melody, and theBook of Songs(excerpts).


The performance was full of sparkling delights during which the audience burst into warm applause for the extraordinary acting skills of new performers, such as LU Su, XU Jianzhong, HU Xuan, TIAN Hui and ZHAO Huan. Amidst the theme, “A Moonlit Night on the Spring River”,and its traditional Peking Opera accompaniment that highlights folk music style, the show brought the audience into an interweaving prospect of Peking Opera and poetry where folk musical instruments, such as the Xindi (a modern transverse flute), the Sheng (a reed pipe wind instrument), and the Erhu (a two-stringed fiddle) were employed.
