On the afternoon of October 23rd, the opening ceremony of the Exhibition of The Unravelers: Mathematical Snapshots was held in the hall of the University Library on the Siping Campus, Tongji University. At the ceremony, JIANG Bo, Vice President of Tongji University, Mr. Fabien CHAREIX, Education Consul of the French Consulate General in Shanghai, and PAN Shengliang, Vice Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences of Tongji University, gave opening remarks.
French mathematics develops itself on a solid foundation, featuring cutting-edge standards, fine traditions, and unique styles. Based on facts about the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES), the exhibition of The Unravelers: Mathematical Snapshots offers an enchanting and beautiful glimpse into the life of French mathematicians in IHES through a large collection of valuable photographs taken by professional photographers and the narration of individual mathematicians, bringing into view the charm of French-styled mathematics. At the exhibition, Mr. Fabien CHAREIX illustrated and elaborated on those precious photos one after another, which greatly impressed visitors.


The Exhibition of The Unravelers: Mathematical Snapshots was not only present at the IHES, but also traveled to several French universities and research institutes, the National Library of France, and many other cities around the world (New York, Chicago, Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Taiwan). The exhibition will be showcased at the Library of Tongji University from October 23rdto November 20th, 2017.
