On the afternoon of Oct. 29th, Dr. Joan Clos, the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN–Habitat) and Honorary Professor of Tongji University, paid a visit to Tongji during his trip to Shanghai to celebrate 2017 World Cities Day. Prof. WU Jiang, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, met with Dr. Clos at the Siping Campus.
Vice President WU first gave a warm welcome and expressed his gratitude to Dr. Clos for making a special visit to Tongji during his hectic itinerary in China. Prof. WU and Dr. Clos then reviewed the progress and achievements made after signing the Memorandum of Understanding for Sustainable Urban Development Education & Training Cooperation between the UN-Habitat, Shanghai Municipal People`s Government and Tongji University last year. In addition, both sides expressed their common wish to proactively and further push forward the close cooperation between the UN-Habitat and Tongji University.
During their conversation, Dr. Clos stated his strong interest in visiting both Shanghai and Tongji more often, whether as Honorary Citizen of Shanghai or as Honorary Professor of Tongji, and to have more discussions on urban development in the future. They also talked on the Double Degree ProgramCooperation between universities in Barcelona and Tongji University, the length of schooling for different majors in the Program, as well as the construction of a world-class ecological island in Chongming,Shanghai.
