Hosted by the Museum of Tongji University and Shanghai Overseas Chinese Foundation, the opening ceremony of the ‘2017 Zimbabwe African Stone Carving Art Exhibition for Tongji University’ was held at the museum of Tongji University on October 20th.
People living on the African continent have had a splendid culture since ancient times. The artistry of Zimbabwe stone sculptures has impressed and attracted an increasing number of people from around the world with its simple lines, exaggerating appearance, antique and natural profile, as well as a mysterious and exotic artistic style.
Sponsored by the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Foundation, all displayed works in this exhibition were carefully selected by Mr. ZHAO Baopei, a researcher on African carving art and a collector of African carvings. These ingeniously designed carving works provided a great opportunity for students in Tongji University to better understand the African stone caving art of Zimbabwe.
