Weaving Products Exhibition by Craftsmanship Training Class Held at Tongji University

The opening ceremony of the Weaving Products Exhibition by Craftsmanship Training Class was held at the Museum of Tongji University last week. It was one of the major events ofthe Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Successors Training Programlaunched by the Ministries of Culture and Education.

In 2015, the Ministries of Culture and Education initiated a training program for the successors of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. So far, 57 colleges and universities nationwide have joined hands in proving training to nearly 10,000 participants in a wide range of traditionalcraftsmanship, such as spinning, cloth dyeing, embroidery, ceramics, metal techniques, sculpturing, lacquer, weaving, furniture making, painting, cloth making, paper and ink stone making and printing. The Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage Successors Training Program is fundamental and strategic in the protection of intangible cultural heritage. The College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University has been commissioned to organize training classes dedicated for such traditional craftsmanship as wood carving, Longquan porcelain and sword making, cane/bamboo/reed weaving and ceramics making.

Nearly 50 pieces of work by the participants will be on display on the second floor of the Museum of Tongji University from October 12 to November 4, 2017.
