Delegation from Witwatersrand University Visit Tongji University

Recently, Mr. Adam Habib, President of Witwatersrand University in South Africa, paid a visit to Tongji University. Executive Vice President WU Jiang, accompanied by representatives from Department of Scientific Research Management and the Foreign Affairs Office, met with the delegation and held a working conference in the Shaw Building.

WU Jiang extended a warm welcome to the delegation’s visit and expressed his expectation that the two time-honored universities might conduct in-depth cooperation in education and scientific research in the future.

Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office, YAN Aihua, along with Deputy Executive of Department of Scientific Research Management, LIU Chun, acquainted the delegation with the overall situation of international cooperation and scientific research at Tongji University.

Mr. Adam Habib expressed his thanks to Tongji University for the warm welcome and introduced the general situation at Witwatersrand University. He highlighted the two universities have great potential for cooperation in the fields of architecture and urban planning, deep-sea exploration, clean water, medicine, physics, mathematics, international relations among others. He also invited university leaders, experts, and scholars of Tongji University to visit University of the Witwatersrand.

Founded in 1896 and located in Johannesburg, Witwatersrand University is a comprehensive and prestigious university with a history of more than 100 years in South Africa. It is among the top universities in the world, ranking as one of the top three in South Africa, and is the alma mater of four Nobel Prize winners. The proposed cooperation between the two universities will benefit both sides.
