The 4th Cup of Excellence was held in Dongnan University September 8 – 11. Altogether, more than 100 students from the 9 universities of the Collegiate League of Excellence participated in this national contest involving chemical experiment design and laboratory skills for college students. The Tongji team performed exceptionally well during the competition and garnered two gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal.

The competition consisted of two parts; one about experimental design, and the other involving experimental skills. The latter part aimed to examine students` operational standardization in the laboratory as well as their chemical knowledge application. The competitors in this part were juniors randomly selected from the teams of the nine universities by the organizing committee. The former part, allowing all the participants to team up at will, was aimed at deepening students` understanding of fundamental chemical theories and helping students with the combination of theories and practice through independent experimental design. Meanwhile, the competition also set out to push students` comprehensive and practical capacity, creativeness, and collaborative awareness to the next level, as well.
