On November 17th,Australian physician Barry Marshall, 2005 Nobel Prize laureate in Physiology or Medicine, paid a visit to Shanghai East Hospital affiliated to TongjiUniversity,which marked his fifth trip to China supported by the Nobel Prize Inspiration Initiative. He visitedthe Research Center for Translational Medicine, the Stem Cell EngineeringCenter and theGallstone Disease Research Center of the hospital. The Nobel prize winner talked with clinicians and researchers of the hospital at the end his tour.

Marshall said,“itis a great pleasure to visit Shanghai East Hospital affiliated to TongjiUniversity, and I findit rewarding to communicate with so many scholars and physicians with big dreams. Science has no boundary. I would be very happyif my research experiencescouldencourage and invigorate the young generation to challengethe unknown domain and explore the future.”

Marshall also expressed his wish to strengthen the cooperation with Tongji University, Shanghai East Hospital in particular, in aneffort to co-establish ahelicobacter pylori research institute.
