On 14th June, Quacquarelli Symonds, a London-based global analysis institution of higher education, published the QS Asian University Rankings, 2016, where Tongji University ranked the 11th (the 13th in 2015) among colleges and universities in Chinese mainland, and the 53rd among Asian universities (the 63rd in 2015).

In this ranking, the top ten universities in China are: Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Beijing Normal University, Wuhan University and Sun Yat-sen University.

This year witnessed 50 more universities on the QS Asian University Rankings than last year and an additional research index of lecturers with PhD degrees to assess teaching quality. The top three in Asia are National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and the University of Hong Kong. China dominated the ranking with 82 colleges and universities on the list, followed by Japan with 74 colleges and universities.
