With the rapid development of modern technology, virtual reality (VR) technology provides inspiration of revolutionary creation for artists. We have stepped into a new era of art creation which is immersed in technology. Tongji Museum pronounced a week ago the opening of an exhibition entitled VR Technology Meets Contemporary Art – THE 8: VR Restructuring of Time and Space, a visual feast which engaged both VR technology and art.

Mr. Cao Qitai, a popular TV host from Taiwan, delivered a speech as a prelude. Mr. Atman One, an avant-garde artist, presented a virtual reality painting show, demonstrating the intriguingly unique connection between technology and art. The lighting in the museum gave the museum a flavor of chanted fantasy against the special interior arrangement. The audience could see from different perspectives the painting process of the artist in a space of 360 degrees, which brought about imposingly strong visual impact. The creation of The 8, a large multimedia work on display, was inspired by the eight basic writing strokes in Chinese found on the inscriptions on tortoise shells in ancient China. The VR technology made it possible for people to travel freely among people, art, time and space, from 2D to 3D and from a virtual to real world.
