On 6th June, the World Environment Day, about 300 students from 30 countries and regions attended the 2016 International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development, a summit on Sustainable Production and Consumption at the 129 Auditorirm of Tongji. The students shared their thinking and practices on energy transition and climate change, ecosystem and wildlife, and on eco-city and green lifestyle. The conference was co-organized by Tongji University, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Xinhua News Agency and Beijing Environment Foundation for Young Talents, from 3rd to 8th June to mark the World Environment Day.

During the summit, Prof. Wu Jiang, Executive Vice President of Tongji University, Ms. Jiang Wei, Chief of Xinhua News Agency Shanghai Bureau, and Ms. Qian Hong, Vice Director of the Shanghai Branch, Agricultural Bank of China, delivered speeches to express their hope for students to take the lead in putting sustainable production and consumption into practice for green production and life, a proper way to realize the global goal of sustainable development and to make greater contributions to turning the earth into a harmonious home of the humankind.
A celebrity event was also held for the World Environment Day, where Dr. Monika G MacDevette, advocators of UNEP sustainable consumption projects, Mrs. Song Jia, a Chinese actress, Prof. Wu Jiang, Vice President of Tongji University and students from Tongji Green Road Association discussed responsibilities of young people over environment and sustainable lifestyles.
Awards of the Green Seedling Funds 2015 and the Green Future Award 2016 were presented to more than forty students of environment-reated majors from over fifteen universities.
